That would, at best, put a theoretical average in the range of 53-76 as a bowler.
That’s worse than Chris Pringle.

Ironically BRACEY will be known in Australia as he made a 60 odd in a game between Australia A & England Lions at the MCG last year.
A game won by England Lions featuring Crawley, Sibley, Jennings, Lawrence, Bracey, Bess & Robinson which has taken on LEGENDARY status.
World Test Championship Final starts today out in the wilds of Hampshire between India & NZ. Or doesnt start as may well rain all day

I made it clear to the ECB 6 years ago he was a batsman and that view won’t change on my side.

I'm no expert, but he looked about as far away from being an international quality batsman and wicketkeeper I've ever seen in the test arena Dr Matt.
If we'd known you couldn't find a competent keeper in the whole of England, you could have borrowed one of the handful in our squad.

Bracey was way out of his depth and is clearly not ready for test cricket. His technique will not score him runs at the highest level without some adaptations, notably not moving his feet across the crease during the bowler's delivery stride. That's a recipe for missing the line, LBWs and caught behinds: the holy trinity of dismissals.

BCCI have treated their women's team like shit. Didn't pay the players for about 15 months, this being a cricketing board awash with money. I'm glad several of the Indian ladies will be able to pick up T20 and Hundred gigs with the Antipodean lot dropping out like flies, give them a chance to earn some money.

Wembley tickets.
England v Scotland
friday 18th june.
Anyone interested, my mate Steff in leeds has 2 tickets for a corporate box at Wembley next friday for the England v Scotland game. He paid £270 each for them but did'nt realise when he bought them that it was going to be the same day as his covid 19 postponed wedding. if you are interested he is looking for someone to take his place. It's at the Quebecs, 5 star hotel in Leeds at 6pm, the brides name is Michelle she's 5ft 6in about 8 stone, very pretty, she's a fulltime accountant and really good cook. They were head and shoulders above England. I'm sure England could make significant changes to their middle-order and bowling line-ups (Buttler, Stokes, Woakes and Archer) when players return from the IPL or injury etc. But they will still have massive gaps to fill with the batting line-up.
They won't beat India or Australia with that batting line-up, let's be sure of that. Starc, Cummings and Hazelwood will run amok.

Btw, I didn't make many comments during the series (busy).
But this is a really good Kiwi side. One of the best, if not the best, New Zealand sides I've seen. No obvious 'weak' links, unlike with some of their past teams. Even the Hadlee era also involved some dross to fill certain places.
Really hard-working and talented group in the mold of their skipper.

He also didn't keep well.
He was all over the place. But he wasn't the only weak link - not by any means. Too many cranky batting techniques and mentally fragile types.
What has happened to Crawley since his double-hundred? He looks about one-tenth the player.
As Vaughan said in commentary, England's batting weaknesses can't only be down to playing too much T20 cricket etc, because the Kiwis play just as much and yet their top six averaged 40+ per wicket. Ours averaged 26. Sometimes it's just about bad technique across the piece.
England's line-up is full of cranky, crouched and jittery techniques - supported by weird at-the-crease habits and squints - which break down the moment their scoring lines are cut-off. It's like watching a room full of kids with ADHD and aspergers have a meltdown when the television gets removed.

Bit of a stretch Matty but you could also argue that Graham Gooch started HIS Test career with two ducks and he turned out ok.
Plenty of Test players come in, get blown away & then go back and work on their game before re-emerging.
Harsh but fair that article by Geoff Lemon.
Coaches and captains often parrot cliched excuses after defeats and its a fair point about the NZ players early in THEIR careers.
Also about series against the no.1 & 2 teams in the world being treated as warm ups for a series against a lower country.

The last elegant, fluent left handed batsman who traditionally bats 3 but was introduced to Test cricket as a keeper, out of position, was Kumar Sangakarra.
Kumar averaged 26.30 more as a batsman than as a keeper.
Kumar also averaged 18.13 more as a batsman outside of England.
Kumar also averaged 30.04 more as a batsman at number 3 (his natural position where he batted throughout his career) than when batting else where.
Using this logic one could extrapolate that by batting just as a number 3, without the pressure of keeping, Bracey would average 77.13.
This would put him as the 2nd best batsman of all time.
